BIPP/Towergate Camerasure Fine Art Competition - Reminder for Entries
2013 is a very special anniversary year - as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the BIPP Towergate Camerasure Fine Art Competition and we are now accepting entries for the 2013 competition.
To celebrate we're offering two top prizes: £1,000 for the Best Portfolio (Five Images) and £500 for the Best Single Image.
All BIPP members are able to enter free of charge including Qualifying and Student members and Friends of BIPP, and the deadline for entries is 14 December 2012.
The subject matter can be anything that falls into the general category of 'Fine Art'. The Portfolio of Five Images must sit together as a panel of images and not be an indiscriminate selection of individual images.
An 'Open' category is also included this year and non-BIPP members will be able to enter for the opportunity to win £250 in the Fine Art Open, Best Single Image category. Entries from non-BIPP members cost £5+VAT per print.
Along with additional cash prizes of £250 each for the Runner Up (Single Image), the International Winner (Single Image), and the Student Winner (Single Image), the top 30 images will form part of an exhibition that will travel around the Towergate offices to promote the involvement of Towergate Underwriting in professional imaging. Images that are selected for the exhibition can be made available for print sales, at prices determined by the entrants, with proceeds split equally between the photographer and Towergate's charity partner for 2013.
Full details can be found on pages 26-28 of the Autumn issue of the Photographer magazine or alternatively visit www.bipp.com/awards for details and to download an entry form.

International Food Photography Day - 14 November
The
world’s first International Food Photography Day is to take place on Wednesday
14 November 2012 - a day to celebrate food photography in all its tasty & delicious glory.
We are encouraging
everyone to celebrate the art of food photography by taking a snap of their mid
morning apple, a sandwich from their lunchbox, a takeaway curry or supper at a
friend’s house.
We hope you
will be inspired to snap your crackle and pop at the breakfast table, get zoomy
on your halloumi at lunch or simply shoot a winner at dinner – wherever you are
with food on Wednesday 14 November, take a picture and create your own food
masterpiece.
Pictures on
phones or cameras, whatever comes to hand, make this a day to remember, for an
art form that has been around, astonishingly, for more than 150 years,
recording and celebrating all aspects of the earth’s bounty.
International
Food Photography Day is conceived by the organisers of Pink Lady® Food
Photographer of the Year 2013 www.pinkladyfoodphotographeroftheyear.com
And if you
register for Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2013 on 14 November 2012,
you’ll be entered into a Prize Draw to win PhotoPlus X5 from Serif to edit,
enhance, and organise your entire image collection. www.serif.com/photoplus

snappy!

Dartmoor Landscape Workshop - An Enjoyable Afternoon & Good Weather!
Many thanks to Nigel Hicks ABIPP and everyone who attended the Landscape Workshop on Dartmoor earlier this week.
An enjoyable afternoon was had by all, under the excellent guidance of Nigel.
The weather even decided to behave itself, although apparently it was a bit windy when venturing up to one of the exposed tors!
Here are a few photos from the day...

Afternoon 'Urban Portraiture' Workshop - 6 November
Image Copyright: Jason Light ABIPP |
Not long to go now until the Urban Portraiture Workshop with Jason Light ABIPP in Maidstone on Tuesday 6 November from 2pm-5pm.
Jason has a refreshing approach to urban portraiture which relies on using one light source, which could be anything from a single speedlight through a white umbrella or a grid spot, to using two speedlites through a large softbox. This method not only allows him to shoot quickly in terms of setting up, but gives him time to talk to and get to know his subjects. He always works on location using the minimum amount of equipment, and he shoots mainly everything in manual mode without using a light meter.
Jason will share his distinctive approach during this practical workshop which will take place on location in Maidstone. He will cover such aspects as getting the flash off camera and methods by which this can be achieved, and the use of umbrellas and a softbox to produce innovative and original images.
A practical afternoon, creating location portraiture in an urban setting.
