I have just seen the news item on the BBC and I have to say I find it incredible that judges on these awards are allowed to enter other categories. Anyone involved in photography knows that individual styles are very recognisable, and it is just not acceptable that the BIPP allows such practises to occur. I have never entered any of the professional competitions partly because it has always looked like a merry-go-round to me. I am also involved in amateur camera clubs and the same thing seems to happen there too.
