PhotoTALK With WPO - 21 November

On Wednesday 21 November the World Photography Organisation (WPO) in association with The Frontline Club will be holding PhotoTALK with WPO: The Funding Game – a special photography event organised as part of WPO’s new series, PhotoTALK.

The event will provide insights into obtaining funding for photographic projects.

Experts and practitioners will hit the key points about grants, bursaries, crowdfunding and more – what they mean, how to find funds and what to think about. The discussion will cover how to consider formulating your work and vision to help fund your project, adopting a slightly different, carefully researched, way of thinking at the pre-production stage. Although often perceived as an impossible task, there are actually many places that are great for sourcing funding for photography.

Join the conversation with Canadian photographer Donald Weber, who recently won first prize in Current Affairs for the 2012 Sony World Photography Awards, and runs regular workshops on funding photographic projects; World Photography Organisation Academy member and award winning photojournalist Carol Allen Storey; Laura Pannack, a World Press Photo winning photojournalist; and moderated by Stuart Smith of SMITH design.
The talk starts at 7pm at The Frontline Club, 13 Norfolk Place, Paddington, London W2 1QJ. For more information or to book tickets please visit www.frontlineclub.com

As the festive season draws near, you can make it easier for customers to pay by giving them the option to pay by credit or debit card – and grow your sales at the same time! If you’re already starting to think  “expensive terminal and account fees” then read on, because there’s a new and innovative way to take card payments, with a new ‘Pay As You Go’ service from Payatrader.com.

Used by small businesses across the UK, Payatrader.com offers a card processing solution with no monthly or minimum usage fees and no minimum term contract. This means you only pay when you accept a card payment – making it ideal for businesses that take low volumes of card payments.

Unframed Sunflower Legacy - Denise Swanson FBIPP

'Ra!' by Denise Swanson FBIPP

Denise Swanson FBIPP has recently taken part in the Turing's Sunflowers Experiment as part of the Museum of Science & Industry.

During an interview about her involvement in the experience, Denise said "I wanted to participate in the Turing sunflower experiment from the start, but my first attempts were sadly futile. From my second sowing, a sole surviving Russian Giant interested me, as it battled against all odds and finally flowered, magnificently standing tall and proud. An upcoming print exhibition called ‘Unframed’ at Oxheys Mill Studios in Preston with ArtLab at UCLan provided an opportunity to try something new and to ensure the legacy of my sunflower lived on. The installation consists of 7 separate fine art prints, each A2 in size, suspended in a clockwise spiral from the rafters, creating an enormous sunflower which gently floats and moves as if in the breeze. Called Ra! the work quietly reflects on the significance of sun worship in every culture."

The installation is on display now as part of the 'Unframed' exhibition at Oxheys Mill Studios in Preston until 1 December, open Fridays & Saturdays between 11am-4pm, with some fabulous work from several other local artists.
