Embargo on the Stone Roses Re 'Exploitative Photography Contract'

It has come to our attention that The Stone Roses have issued unacceptable, rights-grabbing contracts to photographers ahead of their Heaton Park concert on Saturday. A group of photographers, led by Ian Tilton, has been trying to make them see reason. No light has penetrated as yet, and the photographers are currently planning a boycott.

The general feeling is that the contracts are right to exclude any kind of merchandising use of the photos but that restriction should go no further.

BIPP South East : Photographic Essay Workshop & Portfolio Reviews - 10 July

Tuesday 10 July - Photographic Essay in the Open! with Denise Swanson FBIPP

9.30am-5pm

Thetford
Norfolk

This outdoor, hands-on workshop will be held in the historic old market town of Thetford, Norfolk. Under the guidance of Denise, there will be opportunities for taking photographs, exploring your own creativity and to gain an understanding of what defines a fine art image

The day starts at 9.30am with coffee at The Bell Inn, before heading out for your first walk which includes the plane trees on Butten Island, the Old Coffee Mill at Bridges Walk, the Medieval Gaol House on Old Market Street then explore Castle Hill – the largest earthworks of its kind in East Anglia. The earthworks are the result of two separate periods; Iron Age defence ramparts built by the Iceni tribe, and a Norman motte and bailey castle built after the Norman conquest. With so much rich natural and ancient history, there will be no shortage of opportunities for some interesting and creative photography of a variety of subjects. This walk covers a distance of approx 1 mile on firm ground.

During a break for lunch back at The Bell Inn, there will be opportunities to ask questions, compare notes and to discuss ideas both as a group and with Denise.

After lunch, the afternoon walk follows Haling Path along the Little Ouse River to Blaydon Bridge, where there will be plenty of opportunities for some creative photography along the way, with swans, Canada geese, coots, moorhens and kingfishers often seen on and around the river. Heading back towards town, there will be a chance to explore the remains of a 12th Century Cluniac Priory, providing more photographic opportunities and lastly passing the former Burrell works paint shop on Minstergate before returning to the Bell Inn. This walk covers a distance of approx 1.1 miles on firm ground.

The day will finish around 5pm.

BIPP Midlands - Martin Grahame-Dunn - 26 June

Join the BIPP Midlands Region for an evening with Martin Grahame-Dunn on Tuesday 26 June from 6.30pm-10pm.

Lea Marston Hotel
Haunch Lane
Lea Marston
Sutton Coldfield
Warwickshire
B76 0BY

Martin has been in the industry for over 30 years covering many aspects of Professional Photography including Industrial, Commercial, Automotive, Advertising, Fashion, Editorial, Wedding photography & Portraiture.

Over almost the entire period of his professional career he has been actively engaged in the training of photographers from the four corners of the world covering every major discipline. A highly respected trainer and judge with so many Professional Organisations as well as many of the worlds leading representative bodies.

Martin Grahame-Dunn’s "Photography with Passion & Life in Motion"

"What I will not teach you is how to be me! To develop your own style as I have done over the years becomes your USP. Clients book photographers on the 'feel factor' and not based on how great an image-maker you are. But, if you can be both it means a healthy and successful business. The aim of this program is to open your minds to a wealth of possibilities and encourage you to be creative, reactive and responsive to the needs of your demanding clients.

This is normally reserved for my educational courses in the USA & Europe and would be a first in the UK.

Why is it different? Because I will teach how to make the best of the kit you have, easy editing software and without the need to spend a fortune on equipment you simply cannot afford or need".

This is a whistle stop précis of what I aim to cover:

- How to animate your subjects with fun and expression byobserving life and adapting situations - How to use music and Lyrics as a ready made 'Shoot Plan andMovie Script'

- How to create scenarios, develop and work to the 'script' and plan your 'rushes'
- How to use HD Movies produced on a DSLR to add life and lustre to your business.
- How to do simple edits for maximum impact
- How to light and excite a Movie with natural light, reflectors, off camera supplementary lighting.
- How to promote your business, make money out of our art and craft!
- An introduction to Creative Art Direction
- Music & Lyrics as a Script
- Planning a 'Movie'
- The Essential Elements of Inspiration - Rehearsals are the key to success
- Lighting for Stills & Movies
- The 30 Second and 3 Minute infomercial
- Fusion?? What is it and does it work
- Working Systematically
- Command and Control - Making an event work for you

Cost: £10.00 on the door

Everyone welcome!
